About Elena:
Elena Kalis, AKA Bahamas Girl, Alice in Waterland, and mermaid lives much of the time with her friends beneath the waves. Star(half)fish of underwater photography projects for art, education, advertising, fashion and movies. She was born and raised on a small island in the Bahamas where she learned to swim before she could walk. Her mother, an underwater art photographer, encouraged Sacha's natural affinity for the world below the waves where she loves to swim with the dolphins, stingrays, manatees, turtles, and sharks in an environment where light, movement, and weightlessness create an amazing, dreamlike quality to images.
Elena was born in Moscow (Russia) where she was trained as traditional artist. For the past 15 years she has lived on a small island in The Bahamas surrounded by the warm and clear turquoise ocean. While there she became interested in photography, and going underwater with her interest was a natural choice in light of her beautiful surroundings. Aside from her dedication to many personal creative projects, Elena works as a freelance underwater photographer. Her images have been used for book, magazine and CD covers, and have appeared in many print and online magazines and publications.
